Ear Wax Removal

Ear microsuctioning is a specialised procedure used to remove earwax, debris, or foreign materials from the ear canal using a small suction device under visual guidance with a microscope or loupes. It is a safer and more effective method compared to ear syringing and used by many ENT specialist around Australia.

Risks and Possible Side Effects:
Although ear microsuctioning is generally safe, there are potential risks and side effects, including:

  • Otitis externa (inflammation or infection of the external auditory canal)
  • Otitis media. (Inflammation or infection of the middle ear)
  • Perforation of the tympanic membrane (rupture of the eardrum - rare)
  • Damage to the external auditory canal (outer ear) , minor bleeding
  • Temporary dizziness/ vertigo (where a person feels as if they, or the objects around them, are moving when they are not)  
  • Pain or discomfort – including from loud noise
  • Failure of cerumen (wax) removal.

How long does it take?
Please allow 30 minutes for your appointment. This includes an ear examination, ear health check and wax removal if required. 


How much does it cost?
$90 (after Medicare rebate). Please note this is the out-of-pocket cost after your Medicare claim.
